Did not disappoint.

But the ending with the red lanterns I thought was dumb as hell and that part pissed me off. I think him being cold was intended due in large part to his past trauma of losing a child. Not many movies are that convincing. A few of my generally trustworthy film friends raved about this on Letterboxd and I had the same exact reaction as you did while watching. They also seduce everyone with that "rarest wine in the world," etc. An explosion of I KNEW IT on the screen. I think the last thing on anyone's mind would be the actual outcome of that movie and they would all maybe become more and more weirded out, but also would be afraid of offending their hosts. Couldn't agree more, these types of films are right up my alley, but this was just so well done in almost every aspect. Be honest, if you were invited to your friend's house and they showed you an obvious cult video, wouldn't you leave?

To me it kinda alluded to that LA cult-ish brand of "wellness"and how a shitty movement with a charismatic leader can snowball into something bigger and more awful. I just finished watching "The Invitation" and I wanted to say this is definitly one of the best horror movies of the 2010's. If he had left they all would have drank the poison and died, he stayed to try to save his friends. The last scene is just a tag, the movie was about the getting there.

You don't stick around to see how all this psychopathic behavior and cult rituals play out, Jesus Christ! We've been seeing clues all night that this was going to happen, the main character literally says this out loud. So what did you all think?

The only part I found genuinely creepy was the girl who was seen pulling faces in the mirror - but haven’t we had this trope of “main character sees something through a door left slightly ajar” enough times? One woman just randomly makes out with someone in front of her own husband and everyone just walks off to the table for dinner like nothing happened. The only think I thought was little unrealistic was that the whole neighborhood was part of the whole cult towards the end? I also thought the acting was pretty top notch, and you really get a sense of Will and Eden's despair at having both lost a child and watched their lives disintegrate. She knew something was up. I just finished this movie and I HATED it. I feel like that was kind of the point. One of the gay guys openly states he wanted a blow job from someone (presumably) other than his own partner. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. That line basically sums up The Invitation. WHAT DID YOU FUCKING EXPECT.

For more than a decade /R/HORROR has been reddit.com's gateway to all things Horror: from movies & TV, to books & games. My favorite part was when he bashed all the glasses of wine out of their hands and was like NO NO NO FUCK THIS, you can tell at that point he was 100% and FINALLY decided to go with his gut after all this evidence of what was happening. When you die the whole world dies. on April 06, 2016, 8:15am. You just know something is wrong and you want to trust your gut but you get talked out of it logically because you don't want to seem like an outcast or pussy or paranoid or whatever. But the others are all old friends who haven't been together in a while and the couple that invited everyone is doing it under the pretense of trying to make amends for past wrongs.

I am like wait.. huh? He parked behind her and had to move his car for her to leave. While the ideal action would be to walk/run away, I think even in our reality people pretend not to see ugliness or dangerous red flags like domestic abuse or sexual assault rather than get involved or try to change anything. I have never lived in California/LA, so thanks for the insight. And then when shit really kinda hits the fan Will knows for sure something is up and has that badass outbreak (finally) where he calls out the psychopaths like "you can't just pretend this is normal. That's why a lot of their tolerance for "this feels off" is much higher than normal. The most horrifying and awkward aspect of this wasn't the murders but seeing these people sit there and endure this godawful evening. Like Casey Affleck's character from Manchester by the Sea with fewer layers. I thought it was fantastic thriller, with great pacing, acting, and directing throughout. my wife and i kept looking over at each other like "... does this feel like a high school play to you??

Ten years go by, you visit, and you find they're very different.

That's when mayham hits. Then the ending happens, and the people who has been built up the entire movie as to how insane and unstable they are start killing people, and it's supposed to be a shock.
