This book explains the basics of taking photographs, how the camera and photographer become a team to make a photograph that people will actually want to see. Most importantly it's not the type of read where some too-full-of-oneself photographer is trying to tell you that what he/she does is the right and only way to shoot. Rather than merely informing your process, Carroll’s book can become a part of it. Myself, I have been taking photos for many years, of late a little more seriously with a real focus on trade craft. This is one of those you-dont-need-to-know-anything books for those that really dont want to know anything.
If you need more of a certain subject, then its numerous photographic illustrations have likely pointed you in the right direction. Henry mis-interprets many of the photographs (none of them his by the way)and seems to have a odd understanding of operating a camera.
For anyone hoping to better understand manipulating shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to create unique images, this is the book for you.
Start by marking “Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs” as Want to Read: Error rating book. The author begins by explaining how the camera and lens work and them he discusses what the role of the photographer is to make the photo. It is a very short book and I would have preferred a more detailed discussion and more examples to study, but overall I think the author nailed it. I love photography and like to take pics in my spare time. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

I don't think I've ever given a one-star rating before, so I figured I owed an explanation as to why I chose to give it such a poor rating. This section, as with every other section, ends with a great bit of advice… “Now go out and practise”. Refresh and try again.
