Few books are more aptly titled that "More Tales of Pirx the Pilot" -- if you have read "Tales of Pirx the Pilot" you know exactly what you are getting: more of the same. The story isn't as humorous as something like.

You will never find anything better in hard SF than those masterfully written short stories. Some how he always comes out on top, much to his surprise.
I grew up reading him, though, so it's nice to revisit the classics. Although unusually the names are not English (or US) it does not matter, for Pirx was just an ordinary bloke, trying to cope. At the same time it should be clear that this is not the kind of science fiction that predicts the future; it sets philosophical or ethical problems of the present against the rather abstract background of space travel (which is very matter-of-fact and mundane).

Lem can be a mixed bag, but I rather enjoyed this. Pirx is a rocket jockey, plying the space lanes between Earth, the Moon and Mars. If only once in your life you were to take a chance and open a strange door, where do you think it would lead you? I got a collection of three different Lem novels at the Oxfam.

The progression is chronological but with large gaps as Lem captures interesting episodes of Prix career from young cadet to full-fledged navigator. Pirx is not the best I have read by Lem, but, for me, these simple tales are very satisfying.
