The acting is horrible, especially from the children. It dosn't happen often that Netflix, or any company for that matter, makes a movie or series based of a dutch book. It's obvious they had a bit of money to spend on this, so my hopes were high. And, inevitably, they all seem to fall short. Imagine Lord of the Rings but it only follows Aragorn. The cast of ‘The Letter For The King’. The Letter For The King is the story of a ruthless prince who threatens to cast the world into darkness, when a young knight in training named Tiuri embarks on an epic quest to deliver a secret letter to the king.
The Letter for the King was one of my favorite books growing up. © 2020 METACRITIC, A RED VENTURES COMPANY. I hope there's not a season 2 so Netflix uses this money for some other good show. That's understandible.
This is a decent show with a good story line. Oh, and Tiuri’s riding the most inexplicably intelligent screen horse since talking ’60s pony Mr Ed. This film is rated PG. Unfortunately, while Graham gets to have all the fun, Wilson must remain in "forlorn" mode for most of the season. By episode two, Tiuri and Lavinia have established a rhythm of getting into, and then effortlessly out of, predicaments. And those loyal to him don’t really seem to care if thousands die so long as they get their slice of the pie. So now where is the mystery and past of the boy?? It was hard not to compare this with the book, but I did my best.
I haven't read the books so my criticism has nothing to do with them having changed the story, and is aimed solely at the poor acting, abysmal writing and weak story in the show itself. There was absolutely no world building. Turned out to be a waste. I was really enjoying the series until about episode 5. On the odd occasion someone dies your sympathies largely lie with the actor who won’t get a callback for season two. Poor, headless Ned Stark. The main reason is that the TV show spends a lot of time on specific character - for instance how he overcomes great obstacles to get from point A to point B. It’s The Lord Of The Rings by way of The Maze Runner, and if you’ve read this far you’ve pretty much imagined the whole thing already. They should've just sticked to the original storyline. Clearly it's made for teenagers, which is fine, but then be upfront about that and don't target adults in the advertising and waste my time. In this case, a nefarious princeling hellbent on conquering his own father's kingdom. Just garbage. Tiuri bops from helper to faux and back again on this horseback ride to King Favian, all the while evading various groups of bunglers, including his own cohort of indistinguishable teen squires, who are each trying to capture or kill him. We’re pootling happily towards a grand showdown without feeling that it matters much. Good acting from the horse, and that is the only good acting you see in this show. His adoptive nobleman father (David Wenham) has such little confidence in the boy, despite his love for him, that he rigs the combat trials for knighthood so that Tiuri can join his fellow squires in a ritualistic nocturnal vigil that will commence their training. + good visuals From the trailer I could see the story would be different from the book. This poses questions of where the franchise might go next. Again the horse was amazing tho. Other than that, the cast is completely unattractive. EMAIL ME. Wilson exudes vulnerability, his youthful eyes (and curlicued eyelashes) rendering Tiuri believably post-pubescent. It is not a perfect show but it has a good cast, good story, poor pacing, and a good plot twist near the end. It shouldn't even be associated with the book. To brand this as a disappointment is an understatement. And he just meets the rest of the characters here and there without much explanation - then we have a final scene of Frodo destroying the ring - only to return back to Aragorn and his victory celebration. things don't make sense after the twist and it just makes the show more poorly written garbage. Screen writers need to get off the plot twist bandwagon that they all seem to have jumped on since Game of Thrones made it a thing. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Only thing good is the marvellous horse. The problem, though, is that the writers decided to throw in a bunch of plot twists in the 3rd act. A rather opaque prophecy warns of an endless darkness on the way unless something to do with a chosen hero is fulfilled. And unless you don't want your child to see two men kiss on the last episode.
