Perfect family Adventure! When you are this close to the water you can feel the strength of the Delaware’s rapids! There was also a wait of about 25 minutes to get on a bus to bring us to the drop off point and we were on the second bus of the day. Free shuttle service is provided on summer weekends by the Monroe County Transit Authority for those who bring their own canoe or kayak.
Every try to be us but we have the very best section of river, the most scenic, fun and historic! Self Guided - Canoe, Kayak or Raft - Approximately 2 hour paddle time. We opted to put in as close to the true headwaters of the upper branches of the Delaware as physically possible and then paddle all the way into the Delaware Bay so we could truly say we canoed “the whole thing”. asking a few people it was very simple. And as the front of our canoe plunged over a massive limestone ledge and my profanity-laden holler about the size of the drop was met with a gleeful “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!” from my paddling partner, I wondered if my mom might be right. Steve peered into my throat with a headlamp and made a series of increasingly concerned faces before coaxing me into gargling Listerine and taking one of every variety of painkiller we had in the first aid kit. Kayaking is quickly becoming one of the most popular water sports on the Delaware River.
My sister has been in bed all the day after with back pains.
A must see.
For beginners, Kittatinny offers basic paddling instruction with guided kayaking … We joked that maybe we had died in the rapids and were now doomed to be a ghost ship forever paddling the waters of the Delaware, never destined to arrive at a safe harbor but eternally fighting the current, and that the wealthy owners of the yachts in the marina would be haunted by our laughter in the wee hours of windless nights. Every try to be us but we have the very best section of river, the most scenic, fun and historic! Planning a paddling trip? We sat on our portage packs at the end of a stranger’s driveway, passing the bottle back and forth, shaking sand out of our hair, listing all the times we should have died but didn’t. I couldn’t believe it.
Would like to Kayak entire Delaware River from Cannonville Dam (West Branch) to the end. Whether you're looking for a guided trip, kayak rentals, self-guided, day trip, multi-day trip, or anything in between, there's a kayak trip in Delaware for you!
I’m sure your advice is good, but I guess I still haven’t learned to follow it.
hth, 20 to 25 miles a day if it’s runningthree feet or above. This winding river runs for about 15 miles (24 kilometers), draining a significant area of 76 square miles (197 km²) along the Atlantic Coastal Plain. How many days ought I expect it to take to do the entire length?
Above Hancock, the upper branches are thready and wild; below Trenton, it’s tidal. kayaks. Dogged by a never-ending drizzle of cold rain, we finally hauled our boat into the D&C Canal and left the Delaware Bay behind.
My sister and I took our young nieces out kayaking for the holiday weekend. No problem.
Sorry, Mom. At the end there are people to help you get your raft to steps. Please note that I take no issues in paddling long days - my objective is to plunder along, and not to ooh and ahh every single turtle or eagle (simply because I’ve done so many stretches of the river between The Dam and New Hope, I am already pretty familiar w/ the aesthetics). Next time I'd bring a portable waterproof radio and a small cooler for drinks.

Kayaking Entire Delaware River.
Check out all kayaking trips in Delaware for every level of kayaker. After a cool experience we get to the end to find that my sister and I had to haul the huge kayaks up a solid flight of steep steps by ourselves. Illness and the tides forced us to paddle through Philadelphia well after dark in order to make a safe landing with friends south of the city.
The prices were insane (almost 600 for 2 tandem kayaks)! While paddling, you may even spot wild turkeys, bears, and elk!
I would never recommend this, but I can easily say it was one of the most delightfully surreal experiences of my life.
Delaware River Tubing sets the bench mark, we are the true river professionals. We re-entered the land of the living when we paddled into the yard of one of my old rugby coaches after almost 16 hours (and nearly forty miles) on the water.
Things on the resevoir, and near the dam, are verboten, or sketchy. We’d get up early to shake the sand out of our gear before our tent was swamped by the rising water, then paddle frantically to gain as much mileage as possible, get stranded for four to six hours, and then paddle into the night until either the wind picked up or we were too exhausted to see straight. Delaware River Tubing is the absolutely the best Tubing, Rafting, Kayaking and canoeing on the entire Delaware River!
